This August long weekend, Summer Nights - Wine & Cuisine Festival proudly presents the Canoe FM Blues and Jazz concert featuring some of Canada's most accomplished musicians.  

Join us in Head Lake park at On Saturday, August 2nd, 2008 from 7pm to 11pm for a magical evening in the park featuring the 2008 Juno Award winning blues band "Fathead" along side Zoe Chilco & Band and The Cafe Ole.

Fathead is a multi-award winning band has played the top blues rooms, concert halls and music festivals from coast to coast. Their music is steeped heavily in the blues, married with elements of r&b, funk and soul, and possesses a unique ensemble sound that is immediately recognisable as their own.

The group's latest "Building Full of Blues" won another JUNO AWARD in 2008. Arguably their strongest piece of work to date, this disc is beautifully recorded and boasts well crafted material along with stellar performances. Marrying blues with elements of R&B, funk and soul, Fathead has a sound immediately recognizable as their own. They will be touring extensively this year in support of the new disc.

The Cafe Ole's original flamenco-jazz debut recording "Cuanto Tardare" is an organic mix of Spanish, Latin American and jazz, fueled with hot rhythms, sultry vocals, and fiery solos. The Cafe Ole forge passion and energy for a superbly sensuous session.

Biography

While still studying jazz at Humber College (Toronto), bassist/bandleader Dustin Shaskin met the passionate and dedicated musicians who would soon become The Cafe Ole. These band members include vocalist Celia Palli (from Barcelona, Spain), pianist Scott Metcalfe, flamenco guitarist Benjamin Barrile, saxophonist Mike Murley, bassist Dustin  Shaskin, percussionist Diego las Heras, and drummer Max Senitt, After officially forming in November 2005, The Cafe Ole began playing local Toronto music venues and Ontario music festivals. On April 1, 2007. The Cafe Ole received a grant from the Ontario Arts Council to help them record their debut album "Cuanto Tardare," which translates to "How Long Will It Take Me." The Cafe Ole worked with Juno Award winning jazz producer Roberto Occhipinti and Juno-winning recording engineer John "Beetle" Bailey. Also on the band's debut album is featured saxophonist and multi-Juno award winner Mike Murley. The album has been receiving generous local, regional, and national airplay through CBC radio and college stations. Cuanto Tardare recently won Best Latin-Jazz Album and Best Latin-Jazz Song (Cafe Ole) in the 2007 Toronto Exclusive Music Awards. The band also won 2 prestigious songwriting awards; "Cuanto Tardare" won the 2007 Luis Advis International Songwriting Competition in Chile, and "Mujer de Ojos Color Triste" won the Song-of-the-year award from SongOfTheYear.com (best jazz/instrumental song). The album was nominated for Best Jazz Album at the 2007 Toronto Independent Music Awards and the 2007 Ontario Independent Music Awards.

Zoe Chilco is a singer and songwriter of blues and jazz tunes, with six self-produced collections of original material; the latest CD , "One-Woman Blues" was just completed this summer. Her songs have had airplay in many countries around the world.

Zoe performs standards with jazzmen Norman Amadio, Jack McFadden, and Ted Roberts - on keyboards, upright bass and guitar respectively. This most accomplished and respected trio is well-known on the Canadian jazz scene, and in their own careers, and now bring their talents for your enjoyment as they accompany Zoe's vocals
